Centennial’s Huerta named NWSL player of the month

Media members covering the National Women’s Soccer League elected Centennial High graduate Sofia Huerta the league’s player of the month Wednesday.

The 22-year-old scored five goals in five games in May as a rookie forward for the Chicago Red Stars in the top women’s soccer league in the United States. In May, she also became the first player to win back-to-back player of the week honors in league history, which dates back to 2013.

Huerta ranks second in the league with five goals in seven games for Chicago, which leads the league with an undefeated record (4-0-3).
