Idaho runners compete in elite mile at Prefontaine Classic

Idaho high school runners Michael Slagowski of Rocky Mountain and Elijah Armstrong of Pocatello faded to 11th and ninth place, respectively, in the boys mile at the invite-only Prefontaine Classic on Friday at Hayward Field.

Slagowski was among the leaders after the first two laps, but faded to 12th in a time of 4 minutes, 18.83 seconds. Armstrong, a Boise State signee, ran a 4:12.48.

Carlos Villareal of Mexico came from behind over the final 100 meters to win the race in 4:05.25.
