Lexi Knauss had a standout season for Meridian High, earning the nod as the 2016-17 Gatorade Idaho Softball Player of the Year on Monday.
Knauss led the Warriors (19-9) to a runner-up finish at the 5A District Three Tournament and a state berth with a batting average of .552.
The 5-foot-2 senior shortstop racked up 19 doubles, 11 home runs, 43 RBIs and 50 runs scored with an on-base plus slugging (OPS) percentage of 1.793. Knauss also was named the 5A Southern Idaho Conference Player of the Year with 22 stolen bases.
“Lexi Knauss is a great player,” Centennial coach Dean Diffin said in a release. “She’s one of the top hitters in the South, she has great hands and she covers a lot of ground. She has the ability to take over a game.”

Knauss is signed to play for the University of Montana, beginning this fall.
