PGA Championship: DeLaet withdraws; fellow former Boise State player Merritt to make major debut

Graham DeLaet (Boise State) has withdrawn from the PGA Championship because of a thumb injury, the same injury that forced him to withdraw from the Canadian Open last month. It’s not clear how much time the 31-year-old Canadian will be away. Sean O’Hair will replace him. DeLaet is No. 99 in the FedExCup standings with two events remaining until the playoffs. The top 125 will play in The Barclays, which starts Aug. 27.

Troy Merritt (Boise State) will play in his first career major after winning the Quicken Loans National two weeks ago. Merritt, 29, who is 39th in the FedExCup and 100th in the World Golf Ranking, is scheduled to tee off on the 10th hole at 12:20 p.m. MT Thursday alongside Alexander Levy and Russell Knox, who shot a 59 at Hillcrest Country Club during the 2013 Boise Open.
