Idaho football spring game: Linehan has monster game

Sophomore Matt Linehan completed 22-of-24 passes for 467 yards, six TDs and no interceptions to highlight the annual Silver and Gold scrimmage that marked the end of spring camp for Idaho on Friday night. The Silver (first-teamers) beat the Gold (second-teamers) 77-21. “He had a great day,” coach Paul Petrino said. “I don’t know if he missed many throws. He put every throw right on the money.” Senior Dezmon Epps caught 10 passes for 240 yards, while sophomore Aaron Duckworth led all rushers with 118 yards on 15 carries. The Vandals open Sept. 3 against Ohio at the Kibbie Dome. “We have a chance to be good,” Petrino said. “We just have to have a great summer.”

Sophomore David Ungerer added five receptions for 126 yards, and wide receiver-turned-tight end Deon Watson had three catches for 91 yards for the Silver and five catches for 84 yards for the Gold to total eight receptions and 175 yards.

Grayshirt Kaden Elliss led the Silver defense with 11 tackles, which included two sacks and tackles for loss along with one pass breakup, while Doyin Sule led all tacklers with 12 for the Gold. Senior tackle Ryan Edwards added eight tackles with two tackles for loss and one hurry. The effectiveness of the front seven included seven tackles each by Broc Westlake, Kevin Shelton, Leonard Hazewood and Tueni Lupeamanu.
