Idaho State, at home in Holt Arena, returns five defensive starters and adds three players slated to start in 2015 that missed the entire season — linebacker Mario Jenkins (Columbia High, knee injury), strong safety Taison Manu (Highland, foot injury) and defensive tackle Nikko Taylor (academically ineligible).
Coach Mike Kramer said it could be the best defense in his time at Idaho State.
Sophomore Tanner Gueller takes over as the starting quarterback. He started three games last fall, throwing for 855 yards, five TDs and eight interceptions.
Simon Fraser — from outside Vancouver, British Columbia — has lost 13 straight since a GNAC victory in 2014. Idaho State faced the Clan the week before and won 66-14.
