Boise State redshirt freshman quarterback Alex Ogle will transfer to Arizona Western College, he said Sunday.

Arizona Western is a junior college in Yuma.

Ogle was the fourth-string quarterback going into this season and the third-stringer after starter Ryan Finley was injured.

True freshman Brett Rypien replaced Finley and was named first-team All-Mountain West and Poinsettia Bowl offensive MVP.

“Boise State has their guy and I’m not looking to be a backup,” Ogle said. “Simple as that. It’s just business. ... I worked very hard (as a play signaler) and took every day seriously. The last thing I wanted to do was transfer. I loved my first year at Boise State.”

Ogle’s departure leaves just three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster: Rypien and Finley will be sophomores in 2016 and Tommy Stuart, who was the backup after Finley’s injury, will be a junior. The Broncos also will add a true freshman in the fall. They have a commitment from Micah Wilson of Tulsa, Okla.
