Boise State Broncos in the NFL: Kyle Wilson tries to extend his career with Saints

Former Boise State cornerback Kyle Wilson was often criticized during his five-year stint with the New York Jets. They selected him in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft but he only started 28 games, including just one in the past two years.

Wilson became a free agent after last season and signed with the New Orleans Saints. He’s fighting for a roster spot there and took advantage of a significant opportunity last weekend. He played a team-high 62 scrimmage snaps in the preseason game against the Patriots – and from media reports, he played well.

Wilson, who started in the 2007 and 2010 Fiesta Bowls, told me in December that he’s confident he’ll find a second home in the NFL.

“I’m not really worried about it too much,” he said. “I believe in myself.”

Other notes from the weekend: former Boise State linebacker Blake Renaud scored a touchdown as a Vikings fullback, former Boise State cornerback Jamar Taylor grabbed an interception for the Dolphins and former Boise State left tackle Charles Leno Jr. started for the Bears.
