The Boise State football team’s pre-fall camp depth chart was published in the Mountain West media guide, which was released Monday in advance of MW media days.
A few notes (the full depth chart is below):
– At quarterback, the Broncos listed the four candidates with “ors” and in order of experience: sophomore Ryan Finley, redshirt sophomore Tommy Stuart, redshirt freshman Alex Ogle and true freshman Brett Rypien. Finley, the front-runner after spring ball, had his pretrial conference on charges of minor in consumption of alcohol and resisting arrest postponed Monday for a second time. His next appearance is scheduled for Sept. 28.
– At tailback, senior transfer Kelsey Young is the backup behind sophomore Jeremy McNichols. Young is the older brother of redshirt freshman Cory Young, who excelled in the Spring Game when McNichols was out with injury and Kelsey was still at Stanford. Here are stories I wrote on the Young brothers and the tailback race earlier this summer.

– The backup wide receivers are redshirt freshman A.J. Richardson, sophomore D.J. Dean and sophomore transfer Austin Cottrell. Junior Rick Smith is on the roster but not listed. Smith is the Arizona State transfer and Offensive Scout Player of the Year from last fall who was injured in a scrap with a teammate earlier this year.
– Sophomore Archie Lewis is listed as the co-starter at right tackle with returning starter Steven Baggett. Baggett started 13 games last season. Lewis started five as a utility man.
– Senior Tyler Horn and junior Sam McCaskill, who have starting experience at tackle but began their careers at end, are the defensive ends along with senior Rondell McNair. Seniors Armand Nance and Antoine Turner are the starting tackles ahead of senior Justin Taimatuia, senior Tutulupeatau Mataele and junior Elliot Hoyte.
– Senior Mercy Maston and sophomore transfer Kam Miles are co-starters at nickel.
– Junior transfer Raymond Ford is the backup at both cornerback spots.
