High school safety Evan Tyler made a list of dream schools when he was in sixth grade and kept it in his school binder: USC, Texas, Oregon, Miami, Florida, TCU — and Boise State.
So when the Broncos offered him a scholarship this fall, he decided to take a look at the program even though he committed to San Jose State last summer.
And on Wednesday, he committed to the Broncos.
“It was a pretty big deal knowing that one of my schools was coming and talking to me,” he said.
Tyler (6-foot-2, 180 pounds) plays safety, linebacker and cornerback at Eleanor Roosevelt High in Corona, Calif.
He expects to play free safety at Boise State.
“When I went up there to Boise I just felt like it was a home type of feeling,” he said.
He visited Boise State in mid-November. He visited San Jose State this past weekend and made his decision.
Boise State and San Jose State were the only schools to offer him scholarships, he said. He knows Broncos cornerback Donte Deayon (they had the same defensive coordinator) and tailback Cory Young (who played at a rival high school). They convinced him the transition to Boise would be seamless.
“I feel like I’m in the right spot,” Tyler said. “It’s a good spot for me.”
