Fund benefiting Boise State's Jeremy Ioane tops $20,000 goal

The medical fund benefiting Boise State senior safety Jeremy Ioane has received more than $21,500 in donations through a website. The goal was $20,000.

The donations began Thursday morning after an Idaho Statesman story in which Ioane revealed publicly for the first time that he needs a kidney transplant.

There was another spike in donations Monday — about $5,000 — after he spoke at a press conference for the first time.

Ioane also received a $7,500 grant from the College Football Assistance Fund in addition to the local fundraising.

Ioane has been covered by his family insurance and university insurance. After he graduates this month, he’ll lose the university insurance.
