Boise State's Jay Ajayi named Mountain West offensive player of the week

Boise State junior tailback Jay Ajayi was named the Mountain West offensive player of the week Monday for the third time this season.

Ajayi also is the favorite to win the offensive player of the year award, which will be announced Tuesday.

He rushed for career highs of 229 yards and five touchdowns Saturday against Utah State, which came into the game with the conference’s best run defense.

Ajayi is the first Broncos to win three player of the week awards since quarterback Kellen Moore in 2011.

Boise State plays Fresno State at 8 p.m. Saturday at Albertsons Stadium in the Sports Authority Mountain West Football Championship.
