Bronco Beat

Boise State, Utah State will play for division title after Colorado State loss

The Boise State and Utah State football teams will play Saturday night for the Mountain West Mountain Division title and the right to host the conference championship game.

Air Force beat Colorado State 27-24 on Friday on a last-second field goal to eliminate the Rams (10-2 overall, 6-2 MW) from championship consideration. The Falcons (9-3, 5-3) beat Boise State and Colorado State on their way to a 6-0 home record but finished fourth in the Mountain Division.

Boise State (9-2, 6-1) already controlled its destiny in the Mountain Division. But now Utah State (9-3, 6-1) does, too.

“The stage couldn’t be set any better,” Boise State senior cornerback Cleshawn Page said earlier this week.

Boise State has distributed 32,100 tickets for the Utah State game (8:21 p.m., ESPN2).

It’s Senior Day — and fans should note a schedule change that will require them to show up early if they want to salute the seniors. The introductions will be done with 23 minutes left on the pre-game clock, or about the time the teams leave the field after warm-ups. That’s 7:58 p.m. this week (could get pushed back 5 minutes). The reason: Coach Bryan Harsin wants to bring the seniors back into the locker room and go through the final game preparations as a team like a normal game.

Marshall also lost Friday. Here is a post on the ramifications of that game.
