Boise State junior tailback Jay Ajayi was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week on Monday for the second time this season.
Ajayi finished the Louisiana game with 27 carries for 150 yards and three touchdowns. He added five catches for 37 yards.
That put Ajayi back in the national lead in offensive touches (121) — 10 more than anyone else. He is second in yards from scrimmage at 698 and tied for third in touchdowns from scrimmage (seven).
Ajayi is seventh in yards from scrimmage per game at 174.5. At that pace, he would crack the top 10 all-time in yards from scrimmage in a season.
After the Louisiana game, Ajayi gave his best explanation yet of his touchdown celebration, during which he mimics pulling a train whistle.
“It’s just the Jay Train getting it cranking. I’m the conductor,” he said.
The other Mountain West honorees were New Mexico linebacker Dakota Cox (18 tackles, interception) and Wyoming kicker Stuart Williams (game-winning field goal and a 50-yarder).
Boise State has released its depth chart for Saturday’s game at Air Force (5 p.m., CBS Sports Network). The only change is the addition of senior tight end Connor Peters, who was suspended for the first four games for academic reasons. Peters is the fourth of five tight ends listed.
The TV announcers are Carter Blackburn, Aaron Taylor and Jamie Erdahl.
