Kellen Moore was 2-for-2 for 18 yards Friday night against Jacksonville. He only played one series late in the game with the Lions protecting a one-point lead. His second completion converted a third-and-7. The Lions just ran the ball after that and missed a field goal.
The Lions won 13-12.
The Lions wrap up the preseason Thursday night at the Buffalo Bills. The game begins at 5 p.m., an hour before kickoff of Boise State's season opener.
Former Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore and the Detroit Lions play their third preseason game Friday night at home against Jacksonville.
The game begins at 5:30 p.m. It is not on national TV, but NFL Network plans to air a replay at 2 a.m.
Moore could get his smallest amount of playing time during the preseason. Starter Matthew Stafford is expected to play into the third quarter. Moore likely will get his most extensive playing time next week in the preseason finale.
Moore is 16-for-21 for 171 yards and one touchdown without an interception in the preseason. His rating is 115.4.
Stafford has a rating of 137.8. Backup Dan Orlovsky, who played well last week, still lags well behind at 78.5.
Moore’s uncertain roster status became more intriguing this week when the NFL changed rules for practice squads. Moore now is eligible to serve on a practice squad this year. However, any other team could sign Moore if the Lions try to place him on the practice squad.
Moore has been the No. 3 quarterback the past two years but not all teams keep three. The Lions have a new coaching staff this year.
I’ll update this file tonight with a recap of Moore’s play.
