Defensive back joins Boise State football team's 2015 recruiting class

The Boise State football team added a defensive back to the 2015 recruiting class Friday.

Damion Wright (6-foot-1, 195 pounds) of Los Angeles committed to the Broncos during a visit to campus. Coach Bryan Harsin confirmed the commitment with his usual “Go Broncos” tweet.

Wright will be a quarterback and safety at Bishop Mora Salesian in Los Angeles this fall. He transferred from Jurupa Hills in Fontana, Calif., where he passed for 2,512 yards and 22 touchdowns and rushed for 1,000 yards and 18 touchdowns last season.

His only other Football Bowl Subdivision offer was from Idaho, which wanted him as a quarterback.

The Broncos expect to use him as a nickel defensive back, Wright said.

“I like to hit,” he said, “and I like to cover.”

Wright arrived in Boise on Thursday evening, toured campus Friday and met with coaches.

“It was a great place to be,” he said. “It was like a home away from home. It was just amazing.”

One of the most impressive sights for him was one of the school’s new facilities — the Micron Business and Economics Building. He wants to major in business entrepreneurship.

“It’s different,” he said of Boise. “There’s a lot of wildlife. There’s a river by the school. Everybody’s kind, friendly.”

Here’s the 2015 recruiting class so far (the recruiting sites have reported one more name, but he and his coach have not responded to repeated interview requests):

— OL Garrett Larson, 6-4, 250, Fruitland HS

— QB Brett Rypien, 6-2, 185, Shadle Park HS (Spokane, Wash.)

— LB Kyler Manu, 6-2, 200, Highland HS (Pocatello)

— WR Akilian Butler, 5-10, 181, West Mesquite HS (Mesquite, Texas)

— CB Ladarryl Blair, 6-0, 183, South Oak Cliff HS (Dallas)
