Boise State moves up in College Football Playoff rankings

The Boise State football team has moved up to No. 23 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday night.

Last week, the Broncos made their season debut at 25th, third-best among teams in Group of Five conferences. They remained third among those teams, trailing No.15 Central Florida and No. 20 Memphis.

On Saturday, Boise State closes out the regular season at Fresno State (1:30 p.m., CBS Sports Network). The Broncos and Bulldogs also play Dec. 2 in the Mountain West championship game, most likely in Boise.

Central Florida (10-0) plays South Florida (9-1), which is ranked by AP and USA Today but not the CFP, this week. Memphis (9-1) plays woeful East Carolina (3-8). Memphis and the winner of the Central Florida-South Florida game will play in the American Athletic Conference championship game, with the winner likely to get the Group of Five’s spot in the New Year’s Six bowls.

For Boise State to get that spot, East Carolina likely would need to upset Memphis and Memphis would have to win the championship game.
