Bronco Beat

Boise State football just outside top 25 in AP preseason poll

Boise State is not among the teams ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 college football poll, but the Broncos are close.

Four spots outside the top 25, Boise State is second among the Group of Five schools that received votes, trailing only No. 19 South Florida. The Broncos received 37 points, trailing TCU, Utah and Notre Dame among teams just outside the rankings.

Opponents that received votes include No. 24 Washington State, San Diego State (nine points) and BYU (five). Boise State, which opens the season Sept. 2 at home against Troy, also was four spots outside being ranked in the preseason coaches’ poll.

The Broncos opened 2016 five spots outside the top 25 in the intial AP poll and were No. 23 in the 2015 preseason poll.
