Former Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore performed well in the Dallas Cowboys’ preseason opener Aug. 3 against the Arizona Cardinals in Canton, Ohio, playing the entire first half as most of the teams’ starters sat.

Moore was 12-of-17 passing for 182 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Starter Dak Prescott is expected to play in Saturday’s game at the Los Angeles Rams, but Moore should again see some decent work.

“Kellen played like Kellen always plays,” head coach Jason Garrett said after Aug. 3’s game. “He has a real poise and composure about him. He’s got a great understanding of what we’re trying to do offensively. He just has a good feel for playing the game.

“He made a lot of good throws in the game.”

Moore said it was a good change of pace from previous years, especially when he started out in Detroit, often waiting until the second half to get into a preseason game.

“I like not having to wait three quarters and then warm the arm back up after about five hours,” Moore said. “It’s nice to just warm up and get ready to go and play.”

It was Moore’s first game action since Jan. 3, 2016, when he threw for 435 yards in a start in the season finale. He broke an ankle in training camp last August and missed the season.

A rough preseason for former Broncos continued Thursday night: Bills rookie linebacker Tanner Vallejo left their preseason game with a shoulder injury, and Broncos veteran defensive tackle Billy Winn was taken off on a cart with a knee injury. The NFL Network reported Friday that Winn suffered a torn ACL and is out for the 2017 season.

Earlier in training camp, Buccaneers receiver Thomas Sperbeck was waived after a hamstring injury, Bengals safety George Iloka injured his knee and will miss up to a month, Cowboys defensive end Tyrone Crawford injured an ankle that may keep him out the rest of training camp, and 49ers safety Chanceller James was involved in a collision that led to a teammate going to the hospital with a concussion.
