Boise State football will host its Summer Classic Softball Game on Thursday, July 20, at Memorial Stadium. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m., preceded by the home run derby at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $5 for all ages and are available through the Hawks box office at 208-322-5000. After the game, the team will sign autographs for fans in the outfield.
The offense and defense will face one another again, with quarterback Brett Rypien captaining the offense and linebacker Leighton Vander Esch captaining the defense. The offense won 12-4 last year in the six-inning game.
“It’s going down the 20th of July, it’s going to be a fun game, I’m excited to get out on the baseball field, play a game against them again,” Vander Esch said.

Rypien noted that even having Joe Martarano last year didn’t help the defense. Martarano left the team in March to pursue pro baseball, but the defense adds former Padres minor leaguer Mason Smith this year.
“Mason will probably hit three home runs, but you’ve got to have guys on base,” Rypien said.
The annual Mountain West Football Media Summit will be held in Las Vegas on July 25 and 26. Two Broncos and coach Bryan Harsin will be on hand. Fall camp is slated to begin Aug. 1.
