Watch list season starts a little early for the big guys in the middle.

On Monday, Boise State senior center Mason Hampton was named to the Rimington Trophy Spring Watch List, joining six other Mountain West centers and 65 other players from across the Football Bowl Subdivision.

Hampton, a Meridian High graduate, began his career as a walk-on, but was put on scholarship before the 2014 season. Last season, he started 11 games at center. In December, he was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Football First Team, the fifth Bronco to ever earn the honor.

The winner of the 2017 Rimington Trophy will be honored Jan. 13, 2018 in Lincoln, Neb. Ohio State’s Pat Elflein won it last year.
