Jay Ajayi, the former Boise State standout now starring for the Miami Dolphins, was named to the AFC’s Pro Bowl roster on Wednesday.
Bills running back LeSean McCoy was initially voted into the game in December, but will not play, creating a spot for Ajayi in the Jan. 29 game, which will be played in Orlando (6 p.m., ESPN).
After having just 18 carries in the Dolphins’ first four games, Ajayi went on a tear once he moved into a starting role. He finished No. 4 in the NFL with 1,272 yards in the regular season, all but 75 of those yards coming since Oct. 9. He also is the fourth player in NFL history to post three games with 200 or more rushing yards in a game. He scored eight touchdowns.
Ajayi is the fifth former Boise State player to be named to the Pro Bowl, joining former Boise Junior College great Dave Wilcox, safety Quintin Mikell, offensive tackle Ryan Clady and running back Doug Martin.
