With Arian Foster held out of the game, Jay Ajayi (Boise State) started at running back for Miami in the Dolphins’ 27-10 preseason victory over the Giants on Friday night. Ajayi rushed twice for 6 yards. He was also targeted twice.

New York was also missing some of its bigger names, namely quarterback Eli Manning, who had the night off. Ryan Nassib was consistent in leading the Giants on a game-opening touchdown drive and cashing in on an interception in staking New York to a 10-point lead. But his three second-quarter turnovers led to 17 points.

▪ More Boise State connections: Miami linebacker Tyler Gray recorded one tackle. For New York, safety Darian Thompson started and had one tackle, and cornerback Donte Deayon had three tackles, including one for loss.

Packers 17, Browns 11

Even without Aaron Rodgers and several other key players, the Green Bay Packers started their delayed preseason schedule with a victory. Mason Crosby booted a pair of 54-yard field goals, and undrafted rookie Joe Callahan threw a touchdown pass as the fill-in for Aaron Rodgers.

▪ Boise State connection: Cleveland cornerback Jamar Taylor had two tackles.

Vikings 17, Bengals 16

Andy Dalton was sharp in his return, leading the Cincinnati into field-goal range on his only drive during Minnesota’s win. Dalton’s season ended at Paul Brown Stadium on Dec. 13, when he broke the thumb on his passing hand while making a tackle during an interception return. On Friday, he completed his first four passes for 32 yards.

▪ Boise State connection: Minnesota fullback Blake Renaud had one reception for 4 yards. Safety George Iloka started for the Bengals.

Raiders 31, Cardinals 10

Carson Palmer directed a 73-yard drive for a field goal in his one series before the Oakland backups dominated their Arizona counterparts late Friday night.

▪ Idaho connections: Oakland LB Korey Toomer recorded five tackles, two tackle assists and forced one fumble, and DBChris Edwards had one tackle and one tackle assist. Arizona RB Elijhaa Penny carried the ball 15 times for 43 yards, and Mike Iupati started at left guard for the Cardinals.

Broncos’ Keo suspended 2 games

Safety Shiloh Keo (Idaho) was suspended for violating the NFL’s Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse after his arrest on a DUI on Feb. 12 in Ada County.
