Boise State hires Chris Acker as new men’s basketball assistant

Boise State has hired Chris Acker as its new assistant men’s basketball coach, the Idaho Statesman learned Wednesday. The school confirmed the move in a release.

Acker spent the last two seasons as an assistant at Hawai’i. Prior to his time with the Rainbow Warriors, Acker served as the head coach at West Los Angeles College for two years and was an assistant at Citrus College for six years. He played collegiately at Chaminade, located in Honolulu.

“I am excited to have Chris and his family as a part of Bronco Basketball,” Boise State head coach Leon Rice said in a statement. “He’s an accomplished coach and brings a lot of enthusiasm and experience to our program.”

Acker fills the assistant spot left by John Rillie, who took an assistant job at UC Santa Barbara in the offseason. Rice promoted assistant Phil Beckner to associate head coach Tuesday.
