Two future Boise State gymnasts don’t advance in Rio Olympics

Two Boise State incoming freshmen competed in women’s gymnastics qualifications at the Olympic Games on Sunday. Courtney McGregor, 17, of New Zealand was 41st in the all-around standings with 53.165 points. Isabella Amado, 19, of Panama was 44th at 52.832.

McGregor’s top event was the vault, where she scored 14.666 on her first attempt and placed 16th with a two-attempt average of 14.333. She scored 13.066 on floor exercise (57th overall), 13.000 on the balance beam (61st) and 12.433 on the uneven bars (70th).

Amado also peaked on the vault, where she scored 13.900 on one attempt for all-around purposes. She was 49th on beam (13.333), 63rd on floor (12.866) and 66th on bars (12.733).

The top 24 eligible competitors, with a maximum of two per country, qualified for Thursday’s all-around final. The top eight in each individual event will compete in finals next week.
