Idaho colleges roundup: College of Idaho hosts fall scrimmage today

The Coyotes, who are starting their second season after a 37-year absence from football, are hosting their Purple/Gold scrimmage at 2 p.m. at Simplot Stadium in Caldwell. The scrimmage is open to the public. The NAIA program, a member of the Frontier Conference, opens its season Aug. 29 with a home game against 13th-ranked Eastern Oregon.

BSU CROSS COUNTRY: The men’s and women’s teams were picked second in the Mountain West preseason coaches’ polls. Multi-time defending champion New Mexico was picked first in both polls.

C OF I VOLLEYBALL: The Coyotes are 14th in the NAIA preseason coaches’ poll, which is led by reigning champion Park (Mo.). College of Idaho opens its season against No. 2 Biola at the Red Lion-Anaheim SummerSlam on Thursday.
