BOISE About 1,000 swimmers ages 5-18 will wrap up their seven-week summer season with the Boise Parks & Recreation Championship meet Friday and Saturday at the Boise City Aquatics Center at the West Family YMCA. Friday’s action runs from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday competition begins at 9 a.m. Participating teams include the Natatorium, Borah, Fairmont, Lowell, Ivywild, YMCA/Boise City, Meridian, Boise Racquet & Swim Club, Crane Creek Country Club and Hillcrest Country Club. The event is free and open to the public.
BSU’s Howard nominated for NCAA woman of year
BOISE Former Mountain West student-athletes Marisa Howard (Boise State) and Ta’Rea Cunnigan (San Jose State) were chosen as the conference honorees for the NCAA’s 2015 Woman of the Year award. The field of 147 honorees will be narrowed to 30 in early September. Howard finished her career as a three-time All-American selection while competing in cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field. She won four individual Mountain West titles — three in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and one in the 5,000 (outdoor) — and earned 11 All-Mountain West honors throughout her career. The Pasco, Wash., native graduated from Boise State in May with a degree in nursing after concluding her academic career with a 3.84 GPA.
