Two of the former Boise State Broncos on the PGA Tour find themselves together in the top 10 at The Travelers Championship through two rounds.
Troy Merritt shot a 2-under 68 on Friday at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn., putting him at 7-under through two rounds, one stroke behind leader Jordan Spieth. DeLaet was with Merritt in second until the 18th hole, when he posted a double bogey, making him even for the round and currently stands tied for eighth at 5-under.
Merritt played in his first U.S. Open last weekend, missing the cut with a 4-over 148 after the first two rounds. Merritt has three top-25 finishes this season, but no top 10s. He played for Boise State from 2006 to 2008 and is currently ranked 155th in the world.
DeLaet has five top 10s this season, his best a tie for sixth at the RBC Heritage in April. In his last event, The Memorial earlier this month, he tied for 10th. The native of Saskatchewan played at Boise State from 2001 to 2006 and is ranked 73rd in the world.
