FRESNO, CALIF.

Demetrius Romero (Mountain View High) posted a third-place finish at the Roadrunner Open on Sunday. The redshirt freshman went 5-1, winning four straight matches after losing a 7-3 decision to Stanford’s Peter Galli in the 165-pound quarterfinals.

Kadyn Del Toro dropped a decision to Cal Poly’s Sohrab Movahedi in the 184-pound semifinals but came back to finish fourth. Josh Newberg (133) and Austin Dewey (174, Centennial High) finished fifth. Jake Velarde (149) and Harley DiLulo (197, Meridian High) added sixth-place finishes.

Romero and Dewey each reached nine wins and are the only Broncos to reach the podiums in both of BSU’s tournaments this season.
