Oliver Welcker, 9, of Boise, and his family were vacationing in Green Bay on Aug. 3 when they visited Lambeau Field and the Packers at their training camp.

Welcker took part in the team’s longtime tradition of players using kids’ bikes to travel to the nearby practice field.

When Welcker yelled at players, “Ride the potato bike. I came all the way from Idaho,” one responded: Tyler Kuder, a rookie defensive tackle who played at Payette High and Idaho State.

“It was really cool, his helmet was heavy,” said Welcker, who will be a fourth-grader at Washington Elementary later this month. “I’ve never been that close to a Packer before ... and he’s from Idaho.”
