Boise Hawks drop Northwest League baseball opener at Eugene

Boise’s minor-league baseball club opened its 76-game Northwest League schedule Friday night, falling on the road to the Eugene Emeralds 6-1.

First baseman Luis Castro, who played in Boise last season, had two of five hits and produced the Hawks’ only run with a home run in the fourth inning.

The same two teams meet Saturday and Sunday nights.

HOME OPENER: The Hawks, the short-season Class A team of the Colorado Rockies, host the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (Giants) for a three-game series, starting Monday. Game time at Memorial Stadium is 7:15 p.m.
