Coach: Craig Bohl
Record: 4-8 (second season); 108-40 career (12 seasons)
Last year: 4-8 overall, 2-6 MW
Last bowl: 2011 New Mexico (L, 37-15 against Temple)
Returning starters: 5 offense, 4 defense, 1 specialists
Story line: As Bohl attempts to build a team like he did at North Dakota State, the Cowboys are young (just nine seniors on the roster). Bohl wants a strong, powerful run game, and he should have it - but the defense may struggle again after yielding 32.8 ppg last season. Senior QB Cameron Coffman, an Indiana transfer, will start the opener.
Star player: Senior defensive end Eddie Yarbrough (6-foot-3, 251 pounds) is the Cowboys' renaissance man, playing the ukulele at media days, and also the defense's anchor. He had four sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss last season, and could be moved around more this season to utilize his skills.
Quotable: “We need to strive to get our point total down - we were woeful on defense, our point total last year, and that needs to improve" — Bohl on the Cowboy defense
NOTE: This is the eighth in our series profiling the Mountain West’s football teams (except Boise State). We started with the West Division, going in reverse order of the preseason poll, found here. Wyoming was predicted to finish fifth in the Mountain Division.
