Boise State men’s basketball among 10 Bronco teams with perfect single-year APR

Following a season with five Mountain West team championships, the Boise State athletic department claimed another win Wednesday when it was announced that 10 teams posted perfect Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores of 1,000 for the 2013-14 academic year.

The APR tracks each student-athlete on scholarship’s academic standing and accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation. The NCAA created a simple graphic to help explain it further here.

The 10 teams to notch perfect scores were men’s basketball, women’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s golf, gymnastics, swimming and diving, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, women’s track and field (outdoor) and wrestling.

Boise State’s football team had a single-year APR of 973, second in the Mountain West, and tied for 10th nationally among Football Bowl Subdivision schools with a multi-year APR of 981.

The University of Idaho football team, which had been banned from the postseason in 2014 and had reduced practice time because of low APR scores, raised its single-year APR from 838 in 2012-13 to 948 in 2013-14, coach Paul Petrino’s first full academic year in Moscow. Though the Vandals’ 896 multi-year average is the lowest in the FBS, their recent improvement prompted the NCAA to lift the bowl ban and practice reduction in March.

Here is the list of Boise State’s APR numbers for the most recent single year (2013-14) and multi-year (last four academic years), along with the Division I average for each sport’s multi-year average.
