Steven Densham, Bellflower, Calif., captured the No. 1 spot in AA/Funny Car qualifying Saturday with a quarter-mile run of 242.58 mph/5.80 elapsed time on the opening day of the 45th annual NAPA Auto Parts Ignitor at Firebird Raceway. Tim Boychuk of Edmonton, Alberta, had the top time in the first session of AA/Funny Car qualifying with a 229.16/5.87 in his ’74 Satellite, and goes into Sunday as the third-fastest qualifier behind No. 2 and defending champion Kris Krabill of Kent, Wash. (237.30/5.86). The Ignitor continues at 9 a.m. Sunday with Sportsman eliminations, and the first round of pro racing starts at 1 p.m. Adult admission is $20.
