Idaho colleges roundup: NNU decathlete wins conference crown

Northwest Nazarene’s Payton Lewis (Nampa Christian High) claimed the second Great Northwest Athletic Conference title of his collegiate track and field career Tuesday, winning the decathlon with a record effort and an NCAA national provisional mark. Lewis, the reigning GNAC champion in the indoor pole vault, cleared 15 feet, 1 inch in the event Tuesday, vaulting him into the lead and on his way to victory with 6,595 points at the GNAC Multi-Events Championships. His score broke the school record of 6,506 points set by Grayson Kilgore last year and won by 54 points.

NNU GOLF: Samantha Miller was named to the women’s All-GNAC first team, while Keynan Fanslow was named the men’s GNAC Newcomer of the Year.

IDAHO MEN’S GOLF: The Vandals lead the Big Sky Conference Championship in Angels Camp, Calif., by 12 shots heading into Wednesday’s final round. Idaho shot a 3-under 285 on Tuesday, led by Jared du Toit, who carded a 3-under 69 and holds a two-shot lead at 2-under 142.
