Dane Jackson of Tennessee became the first kayaker to repeat as champion in the sixth annual North Fork Championship’s elite kayaking race Saturday north of Banks.
Jackson posted a time of 1 minute, 7.58 seconds on his first run. Evan Moore of California finished second in 1:09.60, which was the fastest time of the second round. Alec Vorhees of Meridian finished seventh in 1:12.40. Younger brother Hayden Vorhees was the second wild card out of the Thursday qualifier and finished 13th in the elite event.
Nouria Newman of France, the only woman in the elite race, finished 24th (1:21.25). Learn more about Newman in the video feature below.
Kayakers from Chile, Spain (two), Canada (two) and Argentina finished in the top 12. The flow was about 4,000 cubic feet per second, more than double last year’s flow.
