I’m driving to Brundage Mountain near McCall today to do a snowmobile story for the Jan. 17 edition of Playing Outdoors.
As I reached the north end of the Payette River canyon about 9 a.m., I looked at the temperature reading in my car and saw that it was minus-28 degrees. A few minutes later, after I left the canyon, the temperature reading dropped to as low as minus-32 degrees.
I don’t know how accurate the temperature gauge on my car is, but the weather app on my phone was recording minus-20 at that time.
The good news: The road from Boise to McCall was almost completely clear — much better than what I experienced driving across Boise. And it was a beautiful, sunny morning.
