Phlox is blooming at Military Reserve along with arrowleaf balsamroot, making this the hike of the week.
Take the Cottonwood Creek Trail up to the Eagle Ridge Trail for great views of the wildflowers and the city below.
It's just a superb morning hike. You might hike this trail between 8 and 9 a.m. to get the right light for photos of the city.
Another surprising thing about the trail is the stairway work done on the trail up to Eagle Ridge. It sure beats the old steep, slippery trail.
This is a great trail for beginners or those who just want to take a leisurely hike close to the city.
