What's there: Rainbow and brown trout.
Description: Silver Creek draws people from all over the world to match wits with the creek's whip-smart rainbows and browns. The Nature Conservancy's Silver Creek Preserve offers anglers excellent access to prime fishing waters, where you can watch dozens of 16- to 20-inch trout cruise through the crystal clear water. But getting them to hit your fly is another matter. Silver Creek has abundant insect hatches and the fish are totally keyed into them. Knowing your bugs and how to effectively imitate them is a key for success. The creek also has some of Idaho's most photographed scenery, and it's a great place for wildlife watching.
Getting there: Take I-84 east to Mountain Home and U.S. 20 near Picabo.
Drive time: About 2 hours.
