Idaho Outdoors photo contest second-place winner: Karen Lowery

Karen Lowery said she “dabbles” with all kinds of subjects in her photography, but it’s appropriate that a photo of her granddaughter, Taylor, earned second place in this year’s contest. Lowery’s grandchildren, after all, were the inspiration behind her increased interest in photography. She joined a camera club about six years ago, and she now belongs to three different clubs. “I started learning about photography to take better pictures of the grandkids,” she said. “I’ve spent a lot of money now, and the camera’s always with me. ... It’s kind of a new hobby that I didn’t have time to do when I was younger.” Lowery’s photo shows Taylor on the back of her grandfather’s pontoon boat. “I knew it was neat because she was having fun and just hanging out,” Lowery said. “I thought it told a story, and it was definitely an Idaho scenario.”
