Charles Knowles was in Japan when he heard that he won the Idaho Outdoors/Idaho Camera photo contest. Of course, he had his camera with him. “I’m kind of a serious hobbyist,” Knowles said. Knowles works for Micron, and he was overseas on business — mixed in with a little picture-taking. “Temples, oh there are so many great temples over here,” he said. Knowles’ grand-prize winning photo is a little closer to home. “I’m very proud of it,” he said. “I’ve taken a lot of pictures of Boise over the years, and it is by far the most unique picture of Boise that I have ever taken.” The window of opportunity for his photo was small. “There was nothing but fog,” he said. “I couldn’t see anything, and I was just hoping the fog would lift, and then it started to clear, and it was very quick. That scene only lasted about 15 seconds. I took about 20 photos in that time frame, and this is the one that worked. ... This was the one.”
