Chances are your local rifle range is not that crowded during mid-summer and it's an ideal time to sight in your rifle for the fall hunting season.
It's no use waiting until a week before opening day to do it and possibly end up shoulder-to-shoulder with other last-minute hunters doing the same thing.
Anyway, it's good practice. Go out to the range several times before the hunt and get reintroduced to your hunting rifle and how it shoots.
Target shooting is fun and what better way to put it to practical use.
