Whitewater safety day set on Main Payette Saturday

Brush up on your whitewater skills as the rafting and kayaking season goes full bore.

The Idaho Whitewater Association is sponsoring its 7th annual Safety Saturday (June14) on the Main Payette River from Banks to Beehive Bend.

Volunteers will offer a variety of boating-practice stations along the river, each offering specialized safety and rescue training.

Boaters floating the Main will be able to pull over and learn new skills or get a chance to practice the skills they already know.

The event is open to kayakers, rafters, cat boaters and their passengers.

To take part at the safety stations, boaters must launch from Banks between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Starting at 1 p.m., the association will be sponsoring an hourly drawing at the take-out at Beehive Bend for those who took part in the training.

The Idaho Whitewater Association will also sponsor a barbecue at the take-out.  It will run until 5 p.m.

  Life jackets are mandatory.
