When a tragedy occurs such as the recent one in Oregon, most people automatically assume the shooter was mentally ill.
Mental illness is not mental at all. It is a brain chemistry problem which can be controlled by a host of drugs — from thorazine to risperidone, etc. The problem should be recognized early and treated like any other disease. Then the person infected can lead a fairly normal life. Just like anyone else.
