Fanatic: a person with an extreme and uncritical enthusiasm or zeal, as in religion or politics. How well this describes contemporary conservatives, especially “uncritical enthusiasm.” Today’s conservatives value belief over knowledge and narrative over fact. A quintessential example is the current attack on Planned Parenthood. Three teams of independent forensic experts from Fusion GPS hired by Planned Parenthood (PP) found that all five of the videos from the so-called Center for Medical Progress were so heavily edited that “…they have no evidentiary value.” Additionally, five states have investigated these allegations and found no evidence of wrongdoing. And yet the conservative anti-abortion fanatics continue to rely on these fabricated videos as proof of PP’s nefarious deeds.
Of course the real nefarious deeds of PP are to support a woman’s right to control her own reproductive life, something the paternalistic, misogynistic fanatics simply can’t abide. It is also quite ironic that these fanatical conservatives believe in the so-called “rights” of a potential life but apparently do not believe existing lives have a right not to be brutally ended in their schools, theaters and churches by some heavily armed maniac . The hypocrisy is palpable.
