Why would the Statesman print a piece with the headline “You, too, can own a flamethrower?” The article was extremely informative in that it educated us on who makes them, how much they cost and how easy it is to buy them. Now, I know there are those who would say, “What’s the harm since anyone who would use such a thing for evil purposes already knows all of that?” That is undoubtedly true in most cases, but why advertise it to those who may not have thought about the ease in which one can procure a flamethrower? To me, printing this article shows the same degree of irresponsibility as that of the local TV station that did a piece some time ago on finding the instructions to make a bomb on the Internet. We certainly have enough “crazies” out there who know how to do all of these things without a TV station or a newspaper planting the idea in their heads.
