Your editorial of Aug. 26, “Demonizing Bergdahl” should have been titled, “Demonizing Trump.” By all accounts, Bergdahl walked away from his post and into the hands of the enemy. Written statements from Bergdahl’s platoon and from his superiors state the fact that he was AWOL. Your demonizing of Trump attempts to slap him around on his statement calling Bergdahl a “traitor.” Trump, along with millions of other people, have “firsthand knowledge” of the Bergdahl incident by way of a military inquiry, made public many months ago. The person who penned the piece, which I find objective, must have a personal dislike for Mr. Trump. I must inquire, does the Statesman employ proofreading editors? How in the heck could have this piece of verbose character slander been approved for publication? All the talking points in this piece have been proved, and your pointing them out shows your bias. From members of squads that might have been killed in searching for Bergdahl to the five terrorists Obama traded for him returning to the effort to destroy America. In your zeal to dump dirt on Trump and paint an AWOL “hometown” troop as a victim, you do disservice to discerning readers. Typical Statesman slant.
