There are too many accidents happening on the I-84 stretch of road. People who usually drive the Mountain Home to Boise section have seen road speeds from 55 mph increase to 65, 70, 75 and now 80 mph. The speed combined with the heavy traffic and inattentive driving is a killing combination. At 80 mph there is not enough correction time plus survival, and recovery from such accidents is poor. The speed limit needs to be reduced. The speed is compounded with reckless driving such as people following vehicles bumper to bumper at 80 mph. It isn’t all cellphone usage, and the one thing that can help prevent accidents is to slow down. Ticket people who choose to drive over the speed limit. We use more gas for driving and higher speeds, and it is so dangerous that people drive at all different speeds because they are worried about driving the 80 mph which adds to the danger. Why are we driving so fast and taking such risks with the lives of people? Is it for the sake of commerce? It needs to stop. People come first.
