Governors Andrus and Batt are influential, they must wake up.
Not everyone has a deep interest in the latest spent fuel controversy including the proposed shipment of 25 spent fuel rods from the North Anna Nuclear Power Station to the Idaho National Laboratory. However, former Idaho Govs. Cecil Andrus and Phil Batt and their lawyers have strongly opposed the proposed shipment. They appear to have been influential and my forecast is that the 25 rods from North Anna will be sent to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
I’ve already written that the 25-rod program is useless; however, it is small potatoes. If Andrus and Batt ever decide to do something worthwhile, they will pay their lawyers to get the nuclear power plants to pay for INL to conduct deep investigations of the condition of all of the spent fuel at all nuclear power plants in the USA. A lot of that fuel has been substantially roughed-up and the investigations will not be small potatoes. Furthermore, the necessary deep investigations will not require the shipment of spent fuel into Idaho
