Just once I wish a liberal would debate something honestly on its merits instead of switching to emotional but irrelevant buzzwords and talking points. Ben Boychuk presented historical facts and the statements of congressman Bingham, who wrote the 14th Amendment, to argue that it was never intended and should not be allowed to apply to the offspring of parents who are in this country illegally. It was intended, narrowly and specifically, to reverse the Dred Scott decision of 1857. Instead of responding with relevant facts, Joel Mathis gave us a screed about how radical and immoral conservatives are to be so anti-immigrant, since we are all descended from immigrants.
For the thousandth time: This discussion is not about immigrants, nor about race. It is about illegal immigrants, people whose presence here violates federal law. Neither they nor their children have any right even to be here, let alone to citizenship.
